Eastern White Pine
A beautiful fine needled pine, the Eastern White Pine is the state tree of Michigan. White pines grow best in a well drained soil that is slightly acidic to neutral. Use caution here in Ann Arbor with our alkaline soils and heavy clay in many areas. They might not fare so well in these locations.
Provide plenty of open space for root growth, and a location in full sun is best. Trees are sensitive to de-icing products and also have several insects and disease problems that can occur.
