In the Ann Arbor area, keeping outdoor spaces looking sharp year-round can be a tall order, especially with fast-growing greenery, unpredictable weather, and the never-ending to-do list that comes with maintaining it all. That’s why many property owners turn to Twin Oaks Landscape to help keep things under control.

We recently had the opportunity to take on a cleanup project for a property that needed some attention. A tucked-away corner had become an overgrown eyesore, with low-hanging branches, dense brush, and layers of ground cover completely taking over. On top of that, a cluster of utility boxes in the area was barely accessible, hidden under all the growth. The space wasn’t just looking rough, it was difficult to manage and starting to become a problem. The property owner knew it was time to call in a crew that could handle the job quickly and thoroughly.

Tackling the Tangle

The first step was clearing out the buildup that had collected beneath the trees. Dead branches, tangled brush, and invasive growth had created a dense mess that was tough to navigate. The ground was littered with broken limbs and plant debris, making it almost impossible to reach the utility area without stepping into a thicket of underbrush.

We started by cutting back and removing the larger dead branches to open up the space both visually and physically. Several of the lower limbs on the pines were trimmed to lift the canopy and let in some much-needed light. Not only did this improve airflow, but it also gave the entire area a cleaner, more polished look.

You can see in the before photo just how cluttered the area had become, with thick foliage covering the ground and branches drooping down to sidewalk level. In the after shots, the difference is clear, the space is open, sunlight filters through the trees, and the utility boxes are once again easy to access.

Making It Low-Maintenance

After clearing out the overgrowth, our crew focused on shaping the remaining landscaping and restoring the area. We raked through the beds, edged the surrounding lawn, and added a fresh layer of mulch to tie everything together.

That mulch isn’t just for looks; it helps suppress weeds, retain moisture, and give the landscape a finished feel. We chose a natural color that blends with the surroundings, so nothing feels out of place. With the mulch and the trees neatly trimmed, the property appears well-maintained without feeling overly manicured.

The cleanup also makes future maintenance much easier. With the underbrush gone and visibility improved, mowing and bed maintenance in this area will take less time and effort. It’s one of those small improvements that pay off season after season.

A Simple Fix with Big Impact

This wasn’t a massive overhaul, but that’s precisely the point. Sometimes, all it takes is a thoughtful cleanup and a little attention to detail to completely transform how a landscape looks and functions. For the property owner, it meant less frustration, better access to essential utility areas, and a yard that looks tidy and maintained from every angle.
