Concolor Fir
Oranges! What do Oranges have to do with an evergreen tree that grows here in Michigan? Well, if you run your hand along the foliage of the concolor fir, that is what you will smell!
This tree is becoming a popular Christmas tree in recent years due to the soft blue-grey foliage, and beautiful scent. In the landscape it can reach over 40’ tall and 15’ wide, although there are some excellent dwarf varieties if a smaller specimen is desired.
It is a drought tolerant tree, and needs very good drainage. Fir’s prefer partial sun to full sun. It is a good substitute for blue spruce, which has sharp needles and more insect and disease problems.
